We had a delightful conversation with Jennifer Serravallo on January 12.  Please leave a comment on our Facebook page about the discussion.  Now we’re looking forward to our March 6 meeting!

Strategic Word Solving:  A Critical

Component of the Interactive

Strategies Approach (ISA)

Dr. Donna Scanlon

Tuesday, March 6, 2012

The College of Saint Rose, Standish Room A

Events and Athletics Center

4:30-6:00

A major purpose of Response to Intervention is to prevent children from experiencing long-term reading difficulties.  The ISA has been found, across a series of large scale studies, to be   effective in preventing reading difficulties when implemented in classroom, small group, and one-to-one settings.  The ISA is a comprehensive and coherent approach to early literacy instruction which relies on teacher knowledge and expertise.  In this session, we will focus on one aspect of the ISA – the method used to help children develop a strategic approach to word solving.  Instructional practices and illustrative videos will be discussed.  Cosponsored by Thelma P. Lally School of Education, The College of Saint Rose.
