We are pleased to announce our 2016-17 program:

October 19th: Dr. Timothy Shanahan will speak about The Reading-Writing Connection.  This event is sponsored by McGraw-Hill Educaton and the Albany City Area Reading Council.  4:30 – 6:30, more details to follow.

Dr. Timothy Shanahan, Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Urban Education at the University of Illinois at Chicago, is a Past President of the International Reading Association, former Director of Reading for Chicago Public Schools, and Principal Investigator for the National Title I Study of Implementation and Outcomes: Early Childhood Langauge Development. Dr. Shanahan is one of the lead authors for the McGraw-Hill Education Reading Wonders program. New Books for New Homes: Albany City Area Reading Council and Habitat for Humanity are partnering together for the 6th year to provide new books to Habitat’s new homeowners.  We provide children’s and adult books as well as books about home maintenance and DIY projects.  We will be collecting new books and contributions through our January event.

December 6th: Best Books of 2016 returns by popular request.  Hear which new books our esteemed panel thinks are the best!  We will celebrate our partnership with Habitat for Humanity on the New Books for New Homes project at this event.  Details to follow.

January, 2017: Digital Literacy in the Classroom presented by colleagues from area schools.  Hear how these classroom teachers, reading teachers, and librarian use technology.  Get ideas you can implement to get your students reading and writing.

March speaker event:  We are finalizing arrangements now – stay tuned!!

May event: We are finalizing plans for a event designed to include time to collaborate and share ideas with colleagues – stay tuned!!
