New Books for New Homes

The 2016-17 New Books for New Homes campaign

Thank you to all who contributed.  We delivered over 120 books to Habitat to Humanity to go to their new home owners.

Working with our partners, Habitat for Humanity Capital District, The Book House of Stuyvesant Plaza, and the Albany and Troy Public Libraries, we collect new books to be given to Habitat to Humanity’s library.  When their new homeowners close on their home, they choose books from this library to start a book collection in their new home.  Each homeowner is provided with a cook book and DIY home repair book as well as children’s and adult ficton and non-fiction selections.  To date, we have contributed about 1,500 books to this great cause.

Announcing our 2016-17

New Books for New Homes campaign.

Book collection runs from December 6, 2016 to January 12, 2017

This is the 6th year Albany City Area Reading Council has partnered with Habitat for Humanity Capital District in collaboration with The Book House and The Albany and Troy Public Libraries to provide new books and library information to new homeowners through our “New Books for New Homes” campaign. The initiative engages the community to provide hardworking future Habitat homeowners with new books and a springboard for a lifetime of reading and learning. The books and reading materials will go to hardworking, lower-income families who will live in new homes built through the generosity of Habitat volunteers and donors. The donation of new, age-appropriate books and library information to Habitat homeowners further reinforces the positive impact that a safe, stable home has on educational attainment and success.

To date, we’ve supplied 1376 books to new homeowners in Albany and Troy.  We believe a lifetime of reading starts at home.  Thank you for your past support.
